Hey Jennece, thanks for the response! I am 26, first house first garden, this summer will be my second year gardening. I have three raised beds for veggies and fruits, and then the flower beds. I have a link listed farther down with a blog of pictures if you want to see and leave any suggestions! I am excited for spring this year. Until then, what is everyone doing with the garden. I have started planning for summer, but I want to DO something!!

Hi everyone, I guess I should give some information about myself. I have hit the big 50. My uncle had a greenhouse as I was growing up. His father had a beef farm and us grandkids spent alot of time there. My best friend in high school lived on a beef/dairy farm in Ligonier PA. My parents had a vegtable garden that was a 1/4 acre in size. I married a dairy farmer and have always had a garden. We do not farm now, but I still have the gardens. Two herb, one strawberry, 1 acid soil, a shade garden, hosta garden, moon garden, tulip bed, shrubs along the road and a cancer garden.

Hi Brenna, I take and cut back all of my hostas after they are frosted off. As the other pereneals die, (cone flowers and blackeyed susans) i cut them back to the green leaves and let them go for the winter. As for roses, it is good to keep them trimmed back so as not to go wild, but not trimmed to the crown as they seem to die out that way. In the summer always cut off the spent blooms as roses seem to go wild if left unattended.

Any tips on getting all the PA plants ready for winter? I just saw the video saying to cutt all the perineals back, but I am afraid this may kill some of them (like the ferns). Also, I read not to cutt my roses back the first three years?

Hi all! I live in Pittsburgh (North suburban) and love to garden. I have a Clivia Miniata Supurba Plant that over the past 20 years has grown, and grown, and grown! I divided it this past summer and now have LOTS of Clivia plants and no place to put them. Anyone near Pittsburgh interested in a really beautiful plant? Check out my page to see a picture of the bloom.

ARE YOU READY FOR FALL? Bet you thought I was going to say, "Are you ready for some football?" Get ready for both. I have to say GO STEELERS since I am in the Western part of Pa. So sorry for you in Phily.

This is my first year gardening, and I would love to see any suggestions people might have for me. I posted a blog with my flower beds, and a short discription about what I ahve growing. Until they decide to approve my blog you can also see it at the below addy. The site is a lot like this one, but run by Terri.

I woudl especially like feedback from this group because you are all in the area, and know what grows best here! As well as what might go together.

Brenna, have you been to the Stauffer's of Kissel Hill in Hummelstown? They have some beautiful things there, and the setting is so pretty.
